There are many non-profit organizations in the world today but one of the most well known amongst those is the LIVESTRONG foundation. I think we can all recall a time when almost everyone had a little yellow wristband with the words LIVESTRONG printed on it. What a remarkable campaign that was; it truly reached out to the public and got the awareness of the organization spread. This non-profit foundation began in 1997 with the help of Lance Armstrong a former cyclist who was diagnosed with Cancer in 1996. Through conducting research of his diagnosis he came to realize that there were little foundations at the time that really aimed to help those struggling with Cancer. Armstrong’s mission was to create this foundation LIVESTRONG and allow it to provide families and individuals with support to get through the life with a cancer diagnosis. Armstrong decided to resign his position as CEO of the organization after having admitted to the public that he in fact was using performance-enhancing drugs throughout his professional career. The donations in 2013 went from a high of $23 million dollars and dropped to about $15 million this really took a toll on the organization. Although Armstrong resigned his position as founder of the organization and it made a huge difference in the donations coming through the foundation is trying to stay strong and get back to where it used to be. In order to do so many collaborative efforts with their social media campaigns are very important.
LIVESTRONG has many different social media platforms but the one that truly speaks to me would be there Instagram account. I want to focus mainly on the instagram account of the LIVESTRONG foundation because it not only has a definite theme associated with its posts but also it allows the viewer to become a part of the movement to support. Looking through there Instagram page one notices a yellow pattern; of course yellow has been the main color associated with the foundation since the very beginning but its extremely important that they’ve kept the same branding method. It not only let’s people know that it is the LIVESTRONG name but it also makes the color yellow seem to be specifically a color dedicated to this cause. The Instragram page has a lot of event pictures posted which is great because it really engages the viewer. It truly encourages them to be a part of the cause and sign up to participate in any upcoming events by giving them links to click on within the post. The foundation is doing a lot to make a comeback with the public and more posts on these social media sites will benefit them greatly.
LIVESTRONG recently just donated $50 million to the University of Texas for Cancer research. This kind of donation is really going to help the organization get back out their feet and out of the slump that they have currently been in. It’s a step in the right direction for the foundation and its displayed all over their social media sites especially that of Instagram.
