After watching the Google hangouts this week, I have absolutely fallen in love with Doctors without Borders. It is truly a great organization and the documented work that they do as an organization is beyond commendable. Nick Owen of Doctors without Borders had some very interesting things to say about the organization, especially that they not only train doctors and physicians all over the world, but that they also place them in places where their help is needed the most.
I for one am a huge fan of Instagram, and after looking at their social media platforms, I see that Doctors without Borders uses Instagram efficiently. I think that doctors without Borders is an organization that depends on the visual aspect of any social media campaign that they may conduct in order to push engagement and awareness. This makes their Instagram page very important. With over 42 thousand followers on their Instagram page, it is evident that this is one of their successful social media platforms. They have obtained a generous following, and people look to their page to see the sometimes hard-hitting images that reminds people of their mission. In most cases, the doctors or patients in the photos are tied to a hash tag for the disease that they are effected by or the country that they are being helped in, such as #malaria or #Haiti, and when people search these hash tags, the work that Doctors without Borders does will show up in the feed.
Utilizing the use of these hash tags and more can not only boost social media engagement, but it can also help drive a social media campaign as well.
