The Make-A-Wish Foundation does not hesitate to use all platforms of social media to get the word about the great things that they do and how they accomplish these tasks. When you visit their social media sites, you are immediately captivated by the many stories that children and their families have to tell. These people are facing hard times, whether it be with terminal illnesses or medical bills, and their stories have gone viral with the help of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. In most cases, children are telling their stories and "making a wish" to meet their favorite celebrities or athletes, or to be a princess or superhero for a day. This is all over their Facebook page, whether it be pictures or videos of the children that draw in viewers and promotes engagement. For instance, videos and photos can be shared, reposted, revined, or retweeted on Facebook, Twitter, Vine and Youtube. This is in part how certain stories go viral all over the world. These social media platforms make connecting with people across the world so easy just by having an internet connection, and it gives people of all different backgrounds the opportunity to see and hear these stories that touch the hearts of many. The Make-A-Wish Foundation certainly has the empathy factor when it comes to social media engagement, whether it be a spectator who lost a child or a loved one who suffers from the same illness as someone telling their story. An article I found on nonprofitquartely.org states that even though there are so many visual social media platforms to be utilized by non-profit organizations, they still depend heavily on their own websites to drive their visual social media presence. Their website is in most cases the backbone of their social media presence, and that is where it all starts. A survey conducted by hubspot found that 98% of non-profits have a Facebook page, suggesting that this platform is probably the most essential to the organizations. As I stated before, it is here that they can make announcements and post video and photography content that people who care about the organization share with others and make the stories grow to new heights. The ultimate goal is to spread awareness and bring more people on board to the mission that these organizations set out to accomplish.
