In looking back at the social media and global health class, I learned a lot of interesting and useful things about the combination of global health and social media. There were many aspects of the class that i enjoy and did not enjoy. I enjoyed the Google hangouts with the multiple non-profit organizations, it was really neat interacting with these individuals, getting to know more about their cause and getting our questions answered via Twitter. What i did not like was the layout of the course. I did not like how there were different sites for different assignments. I would rather have all the quizzes, reflections and others on a single site such as blackboard; it makes everything more convenient for everyone. This class also has gotten me to use my Twitter and Instagram more, before I would rarely tweet or posts, but since the class made it mandatory to tweet five out of the seven days, I became engulfed into a routine of tweeting.
The most challenging element of all were the group assigments. As a group we had a very hard time communicating to each other and meeting up physically, and this was mainly due to our schedules, some individuals had work and could not make it to meetings. It became very frustrating at time where we would have to cram our work in the final day of the assignment.
In the end, this class was frustrating and challenging for me, but I went away with new knowledge on the subject as well as experience working with a group over social media. I learned a whole lot about working with a group and what it takes to be successfull. It was amazing working with the World Pediatric Project, they are definitely a great organization with a wonderful mission and vision.
