In order for a nonprofit organization to be successful, the organization must learn how to fundraise. Fundraising is very important, and without it, an organization may not be able to sustain their costs, and even be able to help people. I believe that one of the most important things to think about when fundraising is what is the most effective way to gain the most money, and influence the most people to support the specific organizations cause. If an organization cannot connect with the people that they are hoping to gain as a support, then they are not going to be very successful in the long run.
I chose to discuss the nonprofit organization, A Bone Marrow Wish. www.facebook.com/pages/A-Bone-Marrow-Wish-Organization/331270350038?hc_location=timeline This is not a major nonprofit organization, but it could be because they have a great idea on their hands. A Bone Marrow Wish is an organization that helps raise awareness for people who need bone marrows. Also, this organization helps people who are in need of a bone marrow, possibly find a match. What this organization does is very commendable because they want to help to save lives. They have been intact as an organization for 10 years, which leads me to believe that they are doing what they initially set out to do. One of their main sources for fundraising is through a campaign called "Give $10, tell 10". The idea of this fundraiser is for people to donate $10 and then tell 10 people about this fundraiser. bonemarrowwish.org/AABMAMCampaign.php I believe that one of the best ways to promote an organization is through word of mouth.
In relevance to the videos I watched in lecture, I would say that one of the successes for this organization was that they get people involved in their fundraisers. Not only do they want people to donate, but they want peoples' lives to be changed by them either donating money or donating their bone marrow. I would say a failure for this organization may be that they chose to limit their efforts to mainly African Americans, and then Asian Americans, Hispanics, and Native Americans. If I saw this, I may not want to support because it does sound a little prejudice. Doesn’t everyone deserve help no matter what their ethnicity is? Also, another failure is that they should put more effort into using their social media sites. This could really help influence how many participants that this organization could have.
