One of the most known non-profit health organizations is Susan G. Komen. The organization has been set on developing and fund raising breast cancer research. This organization and cause holds a special place in my heart as I am a breast cancer survivor. Doctors said I had six months to live months but GOD said otherwise, I can proudly say I was able to beat Mister Cancer twice AlhmduALLAH .Science can say anything but the final say is what GOD has written for us AlhmduALLAH. Luckily God puts great people behind organiations like Susan G. Komen as we strive to find a cure for this deadly disease.
On the fundraising side of things, Susan G. Komen goes above and beyond their call of duty. From sponsorships to rallies to campus events, the organization is seen on a national and world wide level. For erxample, Susan G. Komen recently held their "Race for a Cure' event in Los Angeles, California. In previous years the event raised more than $2,4 million dollars and had a grand total of 18,000 people in population for the year of 2013 alone. This year the success was no different as thousands of people gathered on Newport Beach to race for a cure and have fun while doing it!
Susan G. Komen also hosts a 3-Day eventlink! It is a sixty mile walk for men and women in support of breast cancer awareness and research. 75% of the proceeds go to help reasearch and funding. The event in 2012 raised $58 million dollars. Since 2003 the 3-day event has tallied over $750 million dollars.
I see a lot of the Susan G. Komen information on television but I would love to see it more on social media. Events like Race for Cure and 3-Day event are strongly attended and I would love to see that through social media. During the Google hangouts, I know that is was touched on with event based donors and ideas. However, I would love to see Susan G. Komen tap into the app industry. I feel that it would be something fresh and new for people to get informed and enlightened on the disease through the touch of the smart phones. It creates an at home doctor and will be beneficially in the long run. I wish their was an app for me when I was going through my situation. Although it may not be able to diagnose someone, it could at least provide someone that comfort of being educated.
