For our social media campaign strategy we plan to focus on Preemptive Love Coalition's day-to-day stories and events. We plan to utilize Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube in order to convey what is going on within the organization with posts generated through the organization, and cover all facets of social media, reaching as many as we can while moderating other contributors data and information to provide a secondary source of information. This will add worldliness to the campaign and also bring potential donors more information from people like them.
YouTube: Every recipient of heart surgery has a story to tell. Their family has a story of hardship and adversity, and this can be turned into short films for the YouTube channel. YouTube is a form of social media, but it usually needs promotion elsewhere in order to be successful. The YouTube channel Ashley Banks will be curriating can serve as content for the Facebook page, as well as the other outlets we’re focusing on, cross promoting both mediums. The emotional appeal here is huge. The idea that a bedridden child can receive surgery which allows them to kick a soccer ball with friends and live a healthy life is something all children deserve. Iraqis are fun, smiling people which will show very nicely in short Youtube films. With over 1,000 surgeries performed, there are so many opportunities to create content. Taking from what we learned about in the Google Hangout for Charity Water, donors should receive something back. Another alternative for Youtube content is surgery recipients thanking their donors and doctors who made it possible. Iraqis are truly grateful for the help, and all they need to give back is a “thank you!”
Twitter: Twitter is a great medium for getting across clear, concise and specific ideas without many words. Using 140 characters or less, the user is able to get his or her idea across. The first initiative we would like to take using Twitter would be the ever popular hashtag. Many sites now incorporate hashtags to their platforms although the “tagging” feature used to be twitter-specific. Using the hashtag feature will allow any and all posts made by, about, or involved with Preemptive Love to be organized and unified under that tag. The process of using the tag will show the amount of people talking about the organization in general, which allows conversation to happen between Preemptive Love’s staff and the general public alongside donors. Using tweets to trend ideas and events is a great way to incorporate the hard work being put in daily to a conversation ongoing on the internet. Instagram is able to post through Twitter, which brings in photos, and links can be shared between all other social media platforms in order to bring the thoughts occurring on all platforms together. Our plan is to focus our efforts on getting news and information pertaining to the organization, its surgeries, and Iraqi daily life out and posting things that occur that may have some sort of effect on the group as a whole. This helps spread awareness and also information to donors and potential friends of Preemptive Love. Kayleigh Glass plans to tackle this aspect of the project.
Facebook: Facebook allows people to connect through a variety of mediums that can make it easier to connect with different audiences. The first initiative would take use of Facebook’s life event feature. Facebook has life events that the user can post about and as this non-profit reaches certain milestones they can create a “life event” for their organization. This process will show progression in their organization and could gain more support through their followers, as there is evidence that they are really making a difference. We will be able to break down their own goals and work through their progress within Facebook. Facebook also has a yearly timeline feature and with this there can be an annual summary posted with each ending to the year that can include the main highlights for this non-profit. This would be a great way to easily look back on what they’ve done over each year. Facebook incorporates Instagram within the user’s own page – I think this would be a good way to get either audience to get involved with both platforms together rather than just one. It will also provide an easy link to another platform. Sharing through the Facebook and having all platforms mentioned or grouped inside the Facebook page will potentially feed into more traffic through each platform the non-profit uses. Their Facebook page could be their mainstream page or anchor platform, explaining really the who, what, when, where, and why about the Preemptive Love Coalition
Instagram: With Instagram, we plan to bring forth a lot of content pertaining to the children and families in the “backlog.” We want to bring their story forward and give them a voice that the whole world can hear. We plan to use not only the standard photos to send a message, Instagram has given many opportunities for users to create content on their pages via photos and movies. We plan to use all methods of posting content to Instagram to allow more impact on the viewers. Miles Freyberger will be leading the Instagram page and be posting content. The cool thing about instagram is that it can allow users to follow along with the posts, but it can also allow them post stuff and interact with other users. We hope to bring plenty of smiling faces and see plenty more.
Tumblr: The most customizable form of social media currently available. You can set up themes and pages that support the brand image. Brianna Burroughs will be managing the Tumblr page. We believe that the younger demographic available on this medium is great for the helping spread the cause because of how easy it is to post content and repost content. It is because of this spreadability that we believe the message from Preemptive Love can spread and grow among many users and build a good baseline of followers. Also, due to the younger demographic, we believe that these are the people we should be targeting so they get the right view of Iraq and the Iraqi people before the misguided stories take hold on them. Posts should follow along with the brand, hold true to their message and stay along with the mission of reducing the “backlog” of heart surgeries.
Editing: The Daniel Colarossi is editing our content. He will help keep posts fresh with good looking images by doing editing of the photos, videos, or other content we may need.
In conclusion, the focus our group plans to take a strategic step heavily in the direction of daily life, stories, and events involving Preemptive Love, and those they aid in Iraq. In our class, Matthew Willingham noted that Iraqis are “happy, fun, intelligent people”, and our audience’s interest follows that. The essence of the Preemptive Love Coalition is that they show the lives of Iraqis and show the rest of the world what lies behind the tainted image of life in Iraq. Through our efforts as a group, we plan to keep the goals of Preemptive Love, as well as the interests of those who are more fortunate, and are able and willing to support a cause so worthy. We will cohesively focus on the Coalition’s coverage of day-to-day stories, and utilize the outlets of social media in depth over the course of the project.
