World Pediatric Project is international nonprofit, but it is based in our backyard. We want the people of Richmond to embrace WPP as their own. We want Richmonders to be proud that this nonprofit in Richmond is changing the world, one child at a time. It is a shame that only a few people have heard of WPP, so our social media campaign will focus on raising awareness in Richmond. We are still figuring out the name and hashtags we could use for this campaign. Something along the lines of #RVA4WPP or #RVAheals. Since they don’t have a lot of recourses for social media, we decided to keep our campaign focused on platforms that are the best for WPP. Our group will focus on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pintrest.
Tyesha will work on the Istagram portion of our campaign. First, they need to follow other people, because right now they are only following 40 others, which is an extremely low number. People to follow would include other nonprofit organizations from the health sector, local Richmond businesses, and they should also follow the followers of these nonprofits and local businesses. Young House Love is a local Richmond blog that is nationally recognized. They have a great Instagram, and people that usually follow them are moms.
Molly will work on the Twitter portion of our campaign. WPP follows a vast variety of local businesses that really extend to a wide range. They follow Venture Richmond, and an improvement to their Twitter, and spreading the popularity of the organization would be if they tweet about local events going on around town, such as RiverRock and the Folk Festival, to name a few. These two events put on by Venture Richmond host thousands of Richmonders every year, and I think tweeting at them or about them will get their name out there. They follow businesses everywhere from local bars, VCU departments, mothers, and other parenting organizations. I think they should not only tweet pictures and quotes that support their mission, but maybe every now and then tweet at a few of the organizations they follow. For example, maybe tweet some health tips, parenting ideas, etc. I think adding more variety to their Twitter would not only add followers, but definitely spread the World Pediatric Project’s name around Richmond.
Joey will work on the Facebook portion of our campaign. Once you like their page other local pages like the VMFA, RVAnews, MCV and U of R are all suggested under the “more pages you may like” tab, so you know they are already linked with important businesses in the city. They post about a series they have called EAT.SWEAT.SHOP which teams them up with a local restaurant, fitness center, and retail store and collects a percentage of the proceeds from the money spent at each place. This is a great idea to get involved with the community and spread the word about WPP. The only problem with this Eat, Sweat, Shop campaign, is that they partner up with companies that don’t really have a big voice in Richmond. Companies like Sugar Shack have a bigger following, and they could help spread the word. WPP could also share posts from other local businesses, nonprofits, and hospitals around Richmond.
Rajani will work on the Pintrest portion of our campaign. They have a great Pintrest boards, but they need to be consistent. The boards that are split up into different countries should become one board. This board, “Our Missions” should use the Maps function, so that people can see on a map where the pictures were taken. They should also have a board, “Future Mission”, this board should be filled with places they wish to go to help out. WPP should also have a board about all the places WPP loves in Richmond, like Maymont, VA Science Museum, or even World of Mirth. They should also start following local places around Richmond who have Pintrest accounts, and then comment on the things they pin. Another great way to spread word about WPP in Richmond is to have a board called RVA is home. They should post some behind the scenes stuff that happens at the Richmond WPP. If there is a company outing in Richmond, they should post about it.
We know that through our efforts on Social Media, World Pediatric Project will be known in Richmond. As a group we will be posting examples of what we think WPP should post on our social media accounts. This includes Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pintrest. We also want to reach out to local places and see if we could them to tweet about WPP, share WPP’s Facebook page on theirs, follow us on Instagram, and pin WPP stories. Our goal is to leave WPP with the right ideas on how to raise awareness about them in Richmond.
